Jaimee's Garden Bed
18 Oct 2023

When I met Jaimee she was vibrant and full of life. She still is everyday which is why I love her! But when I was courting her she was always full of ideas. Ideas and dreams of the things she has always wanted to accomplish but that which would be much more achievable with a partner willing to take on the hard work and enjoy every second while doing so.
She once mentioned that she had always wanted to build a raised garden bed as she wasn't able to get much to grow in the soil. She had an idea to tear down the weathered deck in the rear of the house and use the wood to construct a raised garden bed. She didn't directly ask me, but I knew what she was hinting at and I was more than happy to help.
I set on to design prints based of of her desires, I spent hours taking measurements and working with design software to come up with a plan to build the garden bed she had always wanted. After that, we set forth to deconstruct the back deck and save it the wood for the construction of the bed.
Every week I would come over to her home to work a little more on the project. Cutting planks, sanding and weather treating the wood so it would not harm the soil after the construction.
Finally, after about two months, we were ready to start the build phase. With careful measurements we laid out the area with the planks and the bed started to take form.

With the shell of the garden bed finally constructed, the next task presented itself. Filling the bed! We loaded the interior of the bed with as much filler as we could get out hands one. Old pieces of wood, sticks and other foliage. Then, came the big day. Jaimee and I rented a U-Haul and when to the Sioux Falls landfill! I suppose we must have loaded the back of the truck close to half and then spent the next couple of hours transferring dirt from the truck to the garden bed. Luckily Jaimee had a wheel barrel and I must say that helped a ton! Several tons actually!!
